Best Nerf Pistols and Revolvers
Often used as secondary blasters in battles, Nerf pistols and revolvers are smaller-sized, light-weight sidearm guns that can be operated with just one hand.
While they may not be the most powerful or sophisticated blasters around, Nerf pistols are very comfortable, convenient and easy to operate toys.
Let’s have a look at some of the best Nerf gun pistols and revolvers available on the market today.
What are Nerf Revolvers?
Pistols and revolvers are not the same thing.
In the real world, a revolver is essentially a type of pistol. A pistol is a handgun or a sidearm, designed to be held in, and operated by, just one hand. Pistols have small magazines that hold the ammunition. Revolvers on the other hand have revolving cylinders that hold ammunition.
In Nerf world, this difference is pretty similar. Nerf revolvers, such as the Strongarm, have always been quite popular as they are relatively small yet perform really well. However, there are also Nerf revolvers that are actually quite bulky and sophisticated.
Nerf pistols are typically much smaller and lighter. As such, they are mostly used as a secondary gun in Nerf battles. They’re often carried around in a holster or other type of carrying device.
Ultimately, the Nerf pistol or revolver you should choose highly depends on your personal preference and what you want to use it for.
8 Best Nerf Gun Pistols and Revolvers
We’ve selected 8 of the best Nerf pistols and revolvers ever made. Some of these models have been on the market for some years but they are all still available for purchase.
1. Nerf N-Strike Elite Strongarm Revolver
The N-Strike Elite Strongarm is an improved version of the popular Maverick REV-6 in the N-Strike range. It’s a revolver type Nerf blaster that comes with 6 Elite Darts to be loaded into a 6-dart barrel at the front of the gun. The Strongarm can shoot in both single-fire and slam-fire mode.
Slam firing shoots darts more quickly, as opposed to one-by-one single firing with the trigger. To use the slam-fire option, simply keep the trigger pressed with your finger while repeatedly priming the blaster. Both single fire and slam fire work really well, with slam-fire giving you a better firing range and firing rate. A drawback with slam-fire though is that you need to sacrifice on accuracy due to the priming movement.
Overall, we find the Strongarm to be one of best Nerf pistols ever made.
2. Nerf Zombie Strike Hammershot Revolver
Very similar to the Strongarm, the Zombie Strike Hammershot is well designed Nerf revolver. The biggest difference with the Strongarm is that the Hammershot does not offer slam-fire. The Hammershot comes with 5 Zombie Strike darts but it’s also compatible with Elite darts.
What’s awesome is that priming and firing can be conveniently done with one hand. The priming handle is located at the back of the gun and can be operated with your thumb. If you prefer though, you can also use your other thumb if you find that more comfortable and efficient.
The Hammershot is an excellent Nerf revolver with a cool Zombie themed design, although we have a slight preference for the Strongarm.
3. Nerf N-Strike Elite Mega CycloneShock Revolver
Released in 2015 in the N-Strike Mega sub-series, the CycloneShock is a Nerf revolver with a 6-dart barrel. The CycloneShock is also similar to the Strongarm, but uses only Mega darts, not Elite darts. The good thing about Mega darts though is that they typically give you a better firing range. Firing and priming, both single and slam fire, work almost the same as with the Hammershot.
Overall, the Mega CycloneShock is a very cool, robust and ergonomic revolver that would be a great addition to your Nerf collection.
4. Nerf N-Strike Elite Triad EX-3 Pistol
One of the most basic Nerf pistols in this list is N-Strike Elite Triad EX-3. But while it may look very basic, it’s actually quite a clever and powerful gun.
The barrel in the Triad EX-3 can hold three Elite darts, but it doesn’t actually rotate. It simply fires clock-wise starting with the dart at the bottom. If the barrel is loaded with less than three darts, the Triad EX-3 is smart enough to ignore the empty bit, so you won’t shoot any blanks. A fancy word for this feature is the Intelligent Air Restriction mechanism. The below video explains the science behind it.
The Triad EX-3 is a smart-looking, light-weight Nerf pistol that you should definitely consider adding to your collection.
5. Nerf Zombie Strike FlipFury Revolver
The FlipFury is another Zombie Strike revolver that comes with two 6-dart barrels instead of just one like the Strongarm. Other than that, operating the FlipFury is actually very similar, with both the single-fire and slam-fire options available. This cool looking blaster only fires darts from the top barrel. Once the top barrel is empty, you will need to flip (hence the name!) the barrels by pulling the trigger and you can start shooting with the second barrel.
Why should you ever get this one instead of the Strongarm? The main reason is that the FlipFury allows you to fire 12 darts. The drawback though is that this Nerf revolver is bigger and heavier than the other revolvers above.
6. Nerf Zombie Strike Sidestrike Pistol
The Sidestrike in the Zombie Strike series is a compact pistol that comes with a holster and six Zombie Strike darts. It’s also compatible with Elite darts. This model features a two-dart storage compartment right under the blaster’s muzzle. It also comes with two dart holders below and above the blaster holster. Keep in mind though that you can only fire one dart at a time.
It’s a simple but awesome Nerf pistol that is easy to use and easy to carry around with the holster.
7. Nerf Rebelle 4Victory Pistol
The Rebelle 4Victory is definitely the odd one out. The design of this pistol is excellent but the coloring is something you either like or dislike. All Nerf blasters in the Rebelle series feature a more feminine design, marketed towards a female audience.
Released in 2015 as part of the Rebelle Secrets and Spies sub-series, the 4Victory comes packaged with a holster, 3 Secret Message darts and one Collectible dart. Firing is pretty straightforward. Load four darts at the front and prime the blaster by pulling back the hammer.
It comes packaged with a holster, three Secret Message Darts, one Collectible Dart and a message decoder. This all makes sense when you understand what the Secrets and Spies sub-series is all about.
8. Nerf Zombie Strike Doublestrike Pistol
One of the smallest Nerf pistols available, the Doublestrike has the looks of an old-school pistol with the Zombie Strike theme decoration. It’s so small and lightweight that you can conceal it anywhere you like, perfect as a secondary blaster in battles.
The Doublestrike holds two Zombie Strike darts. Just like the Triad EX-3, the Doublestrike is able to detect which barrel is loaded. If only one is loaded, it will simply skip the empty barrel.
Nerf pistols and revolvers may not always have the exciting features that other Nerf blasters have, but they are really cool to play with. They are lightweight, easy to handle, and are perfect as a secondary blaster. Having said that, some Nerf revolvers are in fact quite feature rich and require two hands to operate.
Therefore, choosing a Nerf pistol completely depends on what you want to do with it. Hopefully the above pistols and revolvers are a good representation of what’s available. Our personal favorite is definitely the Strongarm. It performs flawlessly and it has all the right looks.
